Protect Yer Head: OMP Helmet

[The right protection: Gran Prix racing helmet, from OMP. Good sense not included.]

Behold my new toy, an OMP racing helmet. Granted, you can’t really play with it in a traditional way — not like LEGOs or anything — but it’s appropriate since my favorite Candyland these days is the race track. I got about 12 days on a track last year, and I think I finally graduated to the point where I need my own helmet. Not that using borrowed helmets hasn’t been lovely and all (ooh, is that funky sweaty smell a vintage 2005?), but I think it’s time.

OMP is an Italian company (but of course) that makes sweet, stylish racing gear, and this noggin-protector is a composite shell with a fire-resistant liner and a visor that won’t fog. It retails for around $700 and, most importantly, it fits my size XL melon.

Some people may question whether I really need even more gear in my life. (Yes, my closets are bursting.) Others may point out that I’ve already fallen/been dropped on my head enough times that this is akin to closing the barn door after the horses have already got out. But it really is important to be well protected while driving silly speeds in an expensive car. And you want me around a long time to keep posting… right?
